WE BURN IN

ABOUT

Amber Burn is a regional Burning Man event in Lithuania, which is organized and run entirely by volunteers following the ten principles of Burning Man. We all, including YOU, create a more expressive and exciting reality together.

As a part of the Burning Man family, we are a community where everyone is welcome. No prerequisites exist for participation. It’s an environment that encourages individuals to rely on their inner resources and creativity.

This summer, we will build a temporary city in a secret location again – it will stand for five days from July 5 to July 9. We need your help to fill the streets with life, workshops, performances, and art.

The soul of our temporary city is Theme Camps. They are its vital energy, so whatever your passion is – music, art, spirituality, food, learning, sports, recycling,  dancing, subcultures – connect with like-minded individuals and offer an interactive experience to your fellow citizens. Let them play and enjoy!

THEME

Does anyone know what is the path to being immensely free? And what does "cosmic" actually mean? Are we cosmic and excited to build our city once again?

Obviously, even more than excited, because the theme is COSMIC FREEDOM. A powerful and vastly expansive tool to play with. You know what they say – sky is the limit...

So, let’s gather this summer to celebrate our community, our creations, the whole universe that is around and within each of us.

10 Principles
THE 10 PRINCIPLES OF BURNING MAN

The community is guided by ten principles of Burning Man – radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy. These principles are not the rules - they are the guidelines for how we, as a community, are building the world for ourselves and how we live in our daily life.

Burning Man co-founder Larry Harvey wrote the Ten Principles as guidelines for the newly-formed Regional Network in 2004. They were crafted not to dictate how people should act but to reflect on the community’s ethos and culture as it had organically developed since the event’s inception.

principlescommunal-effort.png

Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction.

principlescivic-responsibility.png

We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavour to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

principlesradical-incllusion.png

Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.

principlesgifting.png

Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.

principlesLNT.png

Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavour, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.

principlesdecommodification.png

In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.

principlesparticipation.png

Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play.

principlesradical-self-reliance.png

Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources.

principlesimmediacy.png

Immediate experience is the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner selves. No idea can substitute for this experience

principlesradical-self-expression.png

Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.

Ways to participate
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

Amber Burn is the gathering where what happens is up to you. Imagine immersing yourself in a bizarre world that offers you the chance to step out of your everyday life. Hang loose, be what you always wanted to be, and let it ride. Why not try something new? Support a project you like with your wicked ideas, knowledge, and skills? You are free to tailor your experience to your particular wants and needs.

Amber Burn happens because we all volunteer and create it together. It's YOU who is the most important one. Without you it would be impossible to make this happen. And even more, while volunteering, you have more fun and make new friends. It is important to mention that we volunteer before, during and after the gathering. Starting with planning, then building the city, we need your help by volunteering at different departments during the gathering, while we need your help after the event to leave the place without a trace. It is very important to volunteer as without volunteers - nothing happens in Amber Burn. Dedicate your time before, during and/ or after the gathering and jump into the boat now. If you have any questions related to volunteering, do not hesitate to ask: hello@lithuaniaburners.com

Read more about volunteering here.

Share your creativity with AB citizens: create art, installations, art cars, bring a workshop, performance, help to build the city, share your experience, skills through the talks and activities. Register your input if you need help with placement or need community support to make it happen.

The heARTs of the Amber Burn city are the Theme Camps. Gather your friends and create or join a Theme Camp! It's way easier and more fun to live in a small community of a Theme Camp during the burn. However, if you want to camp by yourself or with a small bunch of people, you can camp in the Free Camping area. Moreover, burners are coming to Amber Burn with the whole family so if you decide to come with the kids – join the Kids Village!

Contact us if you have questions regarding participation or anything else!

FAQ
FAQs
  • What is Amber Burn?
Imagine an empty space where everyone is invited to shape this space with their imagination and initiative. A living organism of co-creation. Bring whatever you are. If you are more than one – organize a Theme camp and give it a name. Express yourself – the most radical part of the self. Rely on yourself, and take care of others. Give yourself away, and do not expect anything in exchange. Amber Burn is an autonomous, un-sponsored, non-commercial gathering co-created by the attending participants who are guided by 10 principles of Burning Man. The gathering is celebrated on private property yet open to all who learn about the event and are part of it by making it happen and volunteering. If you found out about it – you’re invited!
  • Why is it burning?
Because it feels good to burn stuff. It feels good to build something significant and then set it free with no attachment. Feel free to bring whatever you want to let go - whatever it is - a thought, a symbol, or a habit. Give it a shape and feed it to flames!
  • Is there a participation fee?
Every participant (including organizers, volunteers, performers, and artists) contributes to covering the costs of the event by buying a ticket. Every cent of it is used to build conscious, zero-waste infrastructure, cover the organizational costs and support art! However, any use of the money during the event is prohibited. It is a gifting economy - try it, you will come out richer.
  • What is a gifting economy?
Figure out what you love to give and give as much as you can. Give for the love of giving. There is no vending on the site. If you come to the bar, the barman gifts you a drink. Bring your own gifts too, whatever they are – bring more of yourself and give it away. When everyone does it, it becomes a miraculous experience in itself.
  • What do I need to bring?
It is an outdoor camping event with no vending on site. You have to bring enough water and food for the three days for the experience to be most pleasant! As we talk about gifting, make sure that you bring enough for yourself and your friends. Sharing is caring! The extensive survival guide will be available soon!
  • When will we burn?
The gathering is planned for July 5 - July 9, 2023.
  • Where is it happening?
Amber Burn is happening in Lithuania, but the exact location is secret, and it will be kept secret until the last moment – only registered participants will get the information.
  • Why do I need to apply for entry?
Amber Burn is an interactive and participatory event. Filling out the entry form is the first step of getting involved and showing interest in participating. You will receive a follow-up email with ticket sales and other important information. The number of tickets will be limited, and the main sale has a fixed deadline. Unfortunately, after the main sale is closed, there won’t be any sales at the gates, so only those with the tickets will be allowed to enter.
  • I have an idea for a fire sculpture, art installation, workshop, etc, is it ok for me to do this?
That’s great. The burn is a canvas for you to come and express yourself. Artwork and Theme camp registration dates will be announced on our social media channels!
  • This is my first burn and I have no idea as to what to do for the event, how can I help?
Don’t worry, we got you! Once you register, you will receive additional information on how you can participate during the event and before it. It’s a great way to get involved and meet everyone. If it is your first burn, simply integrate and take it easy - get familiar, get awed and inspired, and consider volunteering for one or two shifts.
  • If you need help let me know
Yes, help is needed. However, please keep in mind that just like any other Burn event, Amber Burn is created by its participants. Your contribution can be anything, whether it's time, resources, art, energy, or some of each, but the best gift is initiative. If you see that something needs to be done, go ahead and do it. If you think of something that will improve the gathering, take it upon yourself, be awesome, and do it!
  • What's a Theme camp?
A group of participants who provide an interactive experience to others to satisfy a need or to offer a way to have fun and connect with others. Theme Camp examples: - A camp where visitors can play in an obstacle ring, shooting at each other with water guns - A camp with live music where you can dance, have a drink, and connect with others - A camp where people passionate about food offer a special dish to the visitors - A camp where you simulate a medieval knight fight - A camp where people are all dressed in pink, and you can come pick pink clothes for yourself as well - A camp where you can get a haircut, a shave, or wicked new hair color - In fact, anything can be a Theme camp as long as it offers a participatory experience to others, so get creative and register your camp!

  • What is an EYE PASS?
EYE PASS is a permission for You to photograph and film at the Amber Burn event. The permission is granted after You have applied for an Eye Pass, have been approved to have it, and have signed the Eye Pass contract with the legal person "Lithuania Burners" bendruomenė. Amber Burn is a place where we put our mobile phones and cameras away, respect each participant's privacy, and do not publish anything without their consent. However, if making photos and/or videos is your passion, you have the right to express yourself and create art as a photographer, videographer, or audio artist. For that, please apply for the Eye Pass when the application is announced. Please keep in mind that prior to publicity on any media or social networking platform, every photographer must have written permission for the publicity from an Amber Burn representative. It is all about common sense and respect—ask first. All photographers, professional and otherwise, must not interfere with the immediate experience of other participants. You must ask permission before photographing or filming any participant. If you are asked to stop filming, you must do so immediately. The Eye Pass holder must always follow the rules of the signed Eye Pass contract and the Amber Burn Media Policy.
  • What is Build Week
In case you are available and feel like volunteering in the Build Week of the event, you have to register as an Early arrival volunteer. Follow the information on the Facebook page and the Newsletters that will come.
  • Coming to the Burn Event
After buying the tickets You will be sent a Survival guide that will help you understand where you’re going and how to survive the Burn event. You will also be sent the location coordinates a week before the start. A Theme camp is a component part of any Burn event. Theme camps are groups of people who join to take care of survival issues, create home environments for themselves and, most important, to co-create the Event by sharing what they bring: from massages to interactive art objects, from tea ceremony and performances to dancing stages, etc. Gifting of what we’ve got is the communal effort that co-creates the Burn universes all over the world. In the Black Rock City it is almost impossible to survive without being part of a Theme camp, although there always are those burners who come solo and join the happening on the go. But it is always very very much a different experience to be part of the event as a giver.
  • What is Strike
In case you are available and feel like volunteering in the Strike of the event, come to the Information point on the Event site or just stay after the end of the Event on the site and come to the Strike meeting on Monday morning. A very nice bonus lies in volunteering for strike: we get to arrange and experience the trash burn, and it's huge.
